The journey to the World Summer Games which holds every 4 years begins with the School Sports Day Competition across various Special Schools and Centers in Nigeria in the first year. Afterwards top performing athletes advance to compete at the State Competition in the second year. The Regional Games follows in the third year across various Geo-political zones in the country, and lastly the National Games where top athletes in the various sports compete for a chance of advancement.

Through the ballot system, athletes are selected from the poll of winners at the National Games to represent the country at the World Games – the biggest Special Olympics sports events attended by programs from over 172 countries across the globe.
